The only reports I have is that parts of the Navarre Beach causeway were destroyed with a destructive storm surge. I hope he's OK, but he should have gotten out.

Thanks, Yoda.

Brent, I'll explain again. His dad was called to emergency work at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Jeremy works in the other direction from Navarre Beach. They were to all meet at the hospital to ride out the storm.

Jeremy stopped by his home on the way to Pensacola (hospital) shortly after he got off work at noon and by the time he was ready to leave, the bridges/roads were closed off.

He then to tried to evacuate with relatives nearby -- but they had already gone.

There was nowhere else to evacuate. The last word we've had was about 8:30 last night. nothing since.

He is not irresponsible. He served in the Army in Kuwait and has an IQ of about 140. But he has NEVER experienced any major storm before.

I'm thinking he probably made it through, but we simply don't know.

Dixie,

What does the sheriff or Red Cross say?

I can understand how you feel. I was desperate during Frances. I could not reach my family. They evacuated to the hospital. The hospital lost it's generator etc.

Hold on. Good thoughts only.

Well... apparently officials have been on the beach today and haven't reported any injuries or fatalies so it sounds good.

That's encouraging, except I haven't heard of anyone on Navarre Beach -- it's closed off.

My daughter in Oregon just now finally made contact with emergency service in Okaloosa County. They said they now have personnel on Navarre Beach and getting supplie in. They wouldn't comment on the status of people there. But at least help is in Navarre now. Praying.

On a previous thread I believe it was noted that Jeremy is Dixie's grandson.

Praying Dixie!

You're welcome charleston_hugo_veteran - this story just beraks my heart. I have two teenagers so I have some experience with how they think and operate. She had another thread explaining why he put off leaving the island. I'll post a link in a minute. It explains more.

Here ya go...you blink and topic gets buried we have so many new ones coming by the minute:

Hugo Vet, Jeremy, 23, is my grandson. His sister, Diana, 25, died just 6 weeks ago after a tragic illness. Our family is on its last nerve.
