The only part of FL that hasnt sustained a major blow this season, is the first coast (Jacksonville area) Has me wondering if Leanne wants to remedy this???
Charley leveled SW and Central FL
Frances...SE and Central FL
Ivan FL Panhandle
Oh yeah..the Keys have been spared to...but there luck too is running out as is the First Coast

Why is northeastern Florida considered the "First Coast"? I mentioned this just about 10 minutes ago in the "Floydbuster's 1st Jeanne Forecast..." thread.

Honestly, I thought about that earlier today. I really hope Florida misses all future events! I have an aunt who lives in JAX, So, I hope that doesn't happen!

It's the "first coast" in fla!! After you cross the Ga/Fa border.
As for Jeanne? Who know's, maybe! I'm about done with this season. I have seen a lot of friends and family be caused a lot of hardship due to this season!!
But, still 2 1/2 months to go!!!

Actually:

Real history. Ponce De Leon "discovered" Florida in 1513.

The French founded Fort Caroline in what is now Jacksonville in 1564.
The Spanish founded St. Augustine in 1565. September of that year they killed and drove out the French from Florida. Making the Jacksonville area the first settled area, but St Augustine as the oldest PERMANTLEY settled city.

Seeing as how the first European settlement in the US was here in NE Florida, this area lays claim to being called the First Coast. (Viking cities not included)

BTW, we did get 50+MPH steady winds from Frances. Over 1 million lost power here in Northeast Florida. We got pretty well pounded. I lost power for a day, phone service for almost a week. Not a major storm hit, but still pretty nasty weather.

I think Miami south the the Keys are the only area spared from anything this year......

First Coast because it was the first "permanent" settlement of the new world, I beleive.

Pensacola was the first settlement, but ummm, some hurricane kinda did what Ivan did to it, so umm....they left!

Here in Jax we got hammered pretty good. We had wind and rain from Frances for 3 days. My 70 ft oak tree fell on my house. Lukily doing little damage but still I'm out several thousands of dollars. And from what I can tell from the other parts of the Mandarin area of Jax, I got off a little lucky. There are several people over here who don't have homes anymore. We may have been spared the eye of a hurricane but for all intents and purposes we did not get ignored by one. I hoping for everyone's sake that no other parts of Florida get hit. This season will not end soon enough for me.

We got plenty of tornadic activity from the feeder bands. I still have a massive hickory tree down in my back yard. Crews are still too busy to get to non-threatening trees. My son wants it to stay down, as his new fort!

I think our little apartment complex was the only place in our neighborhood that didn't lose power during Frances.

Dont look now, but the lastest forecast track has it taking a hard left right off the NE FL coast, kinda like what Dora did. Last week we passed the 40th Anniversary.

I had 40mph+ winds for at least 24 hrs with Frances here at the beaches/w howling winds. My weather station, 45 mi inland in Macclenny close to Bob recorded a peak wind of 47.
