8 1/2 Hours, 28 Miles

#1 Postby LSUChamps0002 » Thu Sep 16, 2004 7:49 pm

First, my prayers to all in FL and AL during this time. We got lucky in New Orleans and I am very happy we did. Having said that.......

Ok, I spent the last two days in MS, after evacuating from Metairie, LA. I do not know if this has been discussed. If it has, then forgive the thread.

I left my house Tuesday at 2:00 pm. It took me 8 1/2 hours to go a little under 28 miles. And - I cut off 1 mile from the I-10 parking lot using a back way, so I really saved about an hour there. Also, I spent some time on the side of the road to pick up some time.

So, 8 1/2 would have been more.

Coming home, the mayor and Jeff Parish president were patting themselves on the back for a great job. They did a good job evacuating everyone, but traffic was so, so, so, so, so, very bad.

8 1/2 hours for 28 miles.

One last time ...

8 1/2 hours for 28 miles. Ugh.

Yes, it has been discussed. You also left at the peak of maximum traffic, as it took me 5.5 hours to get to BR the following morning. Those I know who left at 3am or earlier got to BR in about 3 hours. I took Airline hwy which helped.

Next time, DO NOT TAKE the interstate until past Baton Rouge. Look at a map and look at the other routes. Although they are painfully slow, they are not as bad as the Interstate.
