Absolutely. Anyone watching this cyclone would see a real little zinger of a fiesty hurricane is not wanting to lose out to Hispaniola.
I don't know why Jeanne's energy is spread out behind her like synoptic shearing. What ever the case, Jeanne is bursting out in deep reds while being inhibited by land. This is a red-flag for potential strength.
I am reading this strange movement as a combination of being caught in a halfway junction between a strong steering ridge above and weak tropical currents below and land interaction.
If Jeanne jumps up she'll probably curve more north. A skimming of the north shores of the Antilles doesn't bode well for SW Florida in case she does a Donna-like hook around the underside of the peninsula...
