EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
TROPICAL STORM KARL
NJN WEATHER CENTER
935 AM FRI SEPT 17TH 2004

Tropical Storm Karl had me fooled since last night as he appears to be rapidly developing over the open Eastern Atlantic..

Karl is showing a pretty nice outflow as he continues to rapidly organize and may become the season's 7th hurricane possibly as early as today. Before the season started.. I predicted 7 hurricanes.

Karl is moving west but in 72 hours.. maybe even sooner.. He'll begin a turn towards the North.. The only people he'll threaten are far Eastern Atlantic mariners. The Antilles and Bermuda are both well to the West of this system.

It is possible that Karl could become our seasons 6th? major {I say 6 because I think Danielle made major status.. correct me if she didn't}. Which would make everyone in the US and the Islands be happy they don't have to deal with Karl's wrath.

Towards the end of the 5 day period.. Karl may begin to encounter the cooler waters and slowly begin to dissipate.

Note: Intensity errors and track shifts are up to several 100 miles.

Today: Moving West over Atlantic. Becoming a hurricane. Max Winds: 80 mph
Saturday: More West.. still strong.. Max Winds: 90 mph
Sunday: A more northerly component. Even stronger. Max Winds: 110 mph
Monday: Becoming another major hurricane. Max Winds: 125 mph
Tuesday: Moving poleward.. still major but weaker. Max Winds: 115 mph

DISCLAIMER: This forecast is written by an amateur and shouldn't be used in making decisions. Especially life or death decisions, for more information please watch local media outlets or the NHC

I will issue "Jeanne #4" shortly after the 11am advisory.. Hint.. My 1st predicted landfall will be included..

Good forecast, John. I think Karl could become Cat 4 do you think he has a good chance at that.

I think a Cat 4 could happen.. Let's see.. Cat 4's start at 131.. I predicted 125 at max.. But if he intensifies even further.. I think that may have to be bumped up a tad..
