Will Ivan and Jeanne get married?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will Ivan and Jeanne get married?

#1 Postby Chuck Waters » Fri Sep 17, 2004 11:00 am

There are going to be so many bad jokes about these two storms. The predicted paths of both are just the weirdest weather phenomena I have ever seen.

What happens when two large systems collide?

Could Ivan go to sea, regain some strength, suck up some moisture, head south and somehow merge with Jeanne? I would imagine that circular air motions would cause them to destroy each other, but there would still be a lot of moisture in the atmosphere and because of that high off the US, it looks like the moisture would be dumped on the SE US. Is there historical precedent for this? I imagine more rain than wind.

My 14 year old and I were talking about that the other day his theory is if two hurricanes collide it will be "the end of the earth". I'm thinking that's about right for whoever is in the area when that happens, I hope it's not me!

If 2 T.C.'s were somehow forced to collide they would probably shear each other because their wind fields would be moving in opposite directions at the point of contact.

There is the Fujiwhara Effect where 2 nearby T.C.'s revolve around each other.
