if you visit http://www.citizentimes.com they are having pretty good coverage too. I just talked to my parents who live in Asheville and they said it's a mess. Lots of trees down, Biltmore village flooded (plus a lot of other places) power out...

Just got an e-mail from my father-in-law in Black Mountain NC

I-40 has been completely closed at the Tennessee line all day, and will not re-open soon. There have been landslides plus complete washouts from the high water on the river. Travelers are forced to figure out alternative routes between here and Knoxville. I-40 on top of Old Fort mountain has two of six lanes open. The Blue Ridge Parkway suffered numerous mud-slides and wash-outs, and will not reopen in time for the fall, leaf season.

Biltmore Village is once again under 4 ft. of water. (That quaint shopping area just outside the entrance to the Biltmore House.) 97,000 in the county are still without electrical power, including the entire town of Montreat.

Plus he had an Oak come down in his backyard taking his telephone line with it.
It's bad up there but not as bad as was feared.
