Lost and Found

#1 Postby azskyman » Sat Apr 05, 2003 8:30 am

This war, like most things in life that bring out the extremes of human behavior, has its highs (Jessica Lynch) and lows (her fallen comrades) and they play out in ways that find us in tears for all kinds of reasons.

Perhaps as an outgrowth of the conflict, a connection has been renewed with an old Vietnam friendship I've been pursuing for 33 years.

A few months back I posted a note or two on a Vietnam Vet's related website...seeking out members of our old company who had been in that country at the time I was in 1970.

While I didn't hear from anyone who I remembered, I did locate a fellow who had spent time doing my job at my location in Nha Trang some three years before I got there. He even remembered our dog, Bullsh**, and was surprised that he hadn't been eaten by the time I got there.

But yesterday...32 years after I began looking for him, an old army buddy of mine from Houston TX showed up in an e-mail. I could hear his excitement...he said when he found my name on that website he yelled so loud that his wife thought he had been shot!

Long story short...this war has many sidebars, many tragic, but some with happier endings.

I'll let you know how this plays out, but my day was brightened much by finding a friend I hadn't seen in 33 years.

Anyone else with a positive sidebar on an otherwise very sad war?

O.K......you're givin' me goose-pimples.......

I cannot imagine how BOTH of you felt when you realized there was an avenue of communication avaliable!

As I mentioned before, my two older brothers are both Viet Nam Vets. The older brother keeps in contact with several buddies.....the other one seldom mentions any connections. Friendships made in trying times often are the most cherished..........p
