I'm pretty new to the storm2k site, but since I've discovered it Iv'e begun to annoy my wife more than usual with my weather rantings. I've been stuck to mid-atlantic wx.com all day because of all the tornado warnings around us here in Va...but then I jump over to s2k and see what the scuttle-butt is. The first step is admitting you have an addiction.......

Yes I am a tad burnt out...trying desperately to relax a tad with the family before focusing on Jenne.

I'm having a hard time stepping down from Code Red Tracking Mode...reality is do I really need my shutters up and to be losing sleep checking the 11 PM and 5 AM over Tropical Depression Jeanne? I did have a life before this...

I took a much needed break at a local bar, maybe 30 people there to celebrate our luck and welcoming home friends who were in Grenada and had a hell of a time but made it back safe. We had them turn off TWC at the bar, and just enjoyed our lives, a little girl friend selling t-shirts for her school, the bar owner's wife's birthday, locals and gringos just doing what we do best, celebrating life in our beautiful home island. It's good to remember what is most important in these days and nights, even when the one clap of thunder made the whole place go still...for 30 seconds.

I just figured out that I can take my laptop to bed with me, doze off a little, check the TWC and Storm2K. Oh, jeez, I do need an intervention.

I was painting most of this evening- and after posting here and reading a thread or two- I'm going back to painting. My state's the only one I can think of (In the normal tropics) that hasn't been hit or threatened yet... but I'm still haggard from lack of sleep and stress.

Painting is so soothing.

Missed all the posts as Ivan made landfall 'cause we lost power at 10:30 Wednesday night. Didn't get it back 'til 9 last night in my part of Biloxi. And cable was out before that (tried getting access via neighbors generator - oops... forgot, no cable!) Withdrawls? What withdrawls??!!

Which brings up the question... In ya'lls experience, what survives better in/after a hurricane?
A. DSL
B. Cable
C. Dial-up

Would imagine if you lose phone...you'll lose dsl also (they both run off the phone line) and cable...is well cable LOL

Question is is either one underground by you? If so that whichever one is would probably last longer. If neither are or both are over ground..then I dunno! LOL (would think cable though ...but no proof of thats just a wild guess)

In all my previous hurricane-related power outages, the phone still worked - even when the line was stretched all the way to the ground by a tree! But, didn't have DSL then. Since the cable went out right quick in this storm - and we were on the easy side - I'm seriously considering going back to Ma Bell! I can get electricity, but what good does that do if I can't access S2K??

-up

My cable service allow me to access a certain number of hour of dial-up per month as part of the montly charge. Slow and painful, but better than nothing when cable goes down.
