Pictures from Pensacola
Sorry if a repost - I looked through a few pages and did not see this link (mods please remove if it is a repost). Photo galleries from the Pensacola paper (click on each to bring up several pics). Some unbelievable photos. Best of luck to all affected by Ivan. Had some damage from Charley, and no power for 6 days, but some of these photos put all of that into perspective pretty quickly.

Thanks for the response. I'm glad that's not gone. As I viewed the pictures, I can't help, but, feel a personal sense of loss. I feel terrible for the people over there, but, the area from Gulf Shores to Destin is like a personal playground in the Summer for me. We go there every summer many times and it's very sad to see how bad so many nice and fun places look. They are practically gone or destroyed. It's so beautiful over there and I have such great times there when I go. I hope they can recover in time for next summer with the roads and stuff. I'm sure they will be finished cleaning up, though, in a matter of months. I feel like I've kinda lost a second home.

I live in Fort Walton Beach (between P'Cola and Destin). I just got my power back on last night and my phone line this morning. Still waiting on my TV cable so I do not have any news or pictures other than what I have seen here on the computer. The rumors I have heard is that it is bad with a barge sitting on hwy 98 in downtown FWB. The end of Okaloosa Island is gone with the gulf now washing up to Hwy 98. The road between Destin and FWB is washed away and is closed.
My family and I survived and hunkered down in our home that we boarded up. My house was literally shaking during the storm and trees were falling everywhere. Needless to say I was praying the entire night and I believe that is what saved us. The next morning it looked like a war zone.
We have a lot of cleanup to do, I was just checking in to give a little update on the FWB area.

Anyone know how Seaspray Condos in Fort Walton Beach on Okaloosa Island faired?
Also... what about Alvin's Island on Pensacola Beach?
Thanks for the responses. The last 2 times we went to the beach we stayed at Seaspray and both times on the way back we stopped by Pensacola Beach. It was so beautiful. The water was clear, the sand was great, there was no seaweed. Also went to Pensacola NAS this last time.

Has anyone heard anything on the Control tower at Eglin? I have a report from my Mom in Niceville saying the control tower went down there. If it did that strands hundreds of Air Force planes and halts commercial flights to FT. Walton area for the time being until a new tower is up. As important as Eglin is you can be assured there will be a temporary tower up soon if this indeed did happen.

I, too, have heard that the tower is down at Eglin and that there was extreme damage to the base. Family in Baldwin County have stated this (inlaw in Coast Guard), as well as TV stations in West Palm Beach area here reporting the same. Also heard from family that a Gulf Coast fixture, the Florabama, has had major damage. Thought I saw video showing that the Pink Pony Pub was still standing, but no confirmation. This area was my playground for years growing up; guess they didn't completely learn their lesson from Frederik.
