Tunnel Damage??

#1 Postby LSU2001 » Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:09 pm

Here in Baton Rouge, several announcements have been made about traffic through the Mobile Tunnel and that it had collapsed during Ivan. Is there any truth to this because I have seen nothing else about this.
Thanks

Which one? The Bankhead or the Wallace? I know the Bankhead tunnel was re-opened.

I really do not know they only said the tunnel in mobile. They said that it had collapsed on the florida side if that helps.

The bankhead tunnel was re-opened. And the Wallace tunnel leads to the Bayway (crossing Mobile Bay on I-10) to get to Florida. My brother in law went that way this morning and he did not mention anything about the Wallace tunnel being closed. I did hear on wkrg-5 that Bankhead had opened.

No the tunnels did not collapse. I wonder why you are getting that info. How did the rumor get started?

How did Franklin Creek fare? I talked to Sheriff Byrd this morning but forgot to ask about Franklin Creek.

My god I did not know he was sheriff, I knew him when he was a lowly beat cop and friend of the family. By the way my family names are Hiestand and Heinkel know any?

I know some Hinkels, but different spelling.

Yeah, he was a Moss Point cop for years. He beat out Pete Pope for sheriff two times in a row!

I probably spelled it wrong, I have been away since 1979 and was a kid when i left. I have little contact with that side of the family.

I know Pat and Richard Hinkel. And Judy Hinkel. She just passed away a few weeks ago. She was office manager at my animals veterinarian's office. :(

Is this the same Mike Byrd that was a Homestead cop?

I love Richard to death.

And no Marie. Mike Byrd is a born and bred MS boy.
