Jeanne: Accuweather Crazy?

#1 Postby SeaBrz_FL » Sat Sep 18, 2004 7:37 pm

As you all know by now, I don't participate in forecast threads, but you that do are my ultimate forecasters. (Mucho gracias for all past storms!)

I only found out about Accuweater.com from a post here during Frances, but haven't seen any posts supporting or bashing Accuweather in general. Obviously, the current path below is concerning me, but overall how much credibility does this board give to Accuweather forecasting?

Accuweather is not the national weather service although they sure think they should be.

How well did they do with Ivan, Frances and Charley's track?

Nothing against accuweather in general...but I am pretty sure JB is still forecasting Frances to short-cut the coast and go into NC.

Not sure about the "politics", but Storm2K members predictions and warnings were better than the NWS always. ...This is the reason I'm asking the members here about Accuweather. (I'm hoping to hear that I need to remove this bookmark from my browser.)

Mike, are you being funny, or do you need some sleep? Frances?
(I may be missing some history here, and if so, nevermind!)

I sometimes feel that accuweather(namely Bastardi) gives a much better explanation of why they think a 'cane will go the way they forecast it to go. Granted you have to be a member of S2K(or the like) to hear Bastardi's forecast unless you want to pay to hear them directly from his lips. (Why does he have to charge to hear his antics?)

Damn, I'm still learning how to successfully ask what I really want to know.

I really want some of you "pro's" here to tell me that Accuweather's Central FL hit prediction is "way off base", "ridiculous", "impossible", etc. Please!

 Sorry, didn't realize the "Joe Bastardi" posts in the past were the same as Accuweather. Now I get it.

My question: does he (Bastardi/A-weather) expect Ivan and Jeanne to come across the penisula hand-in-hand? Sounds as if they are both headed for a Florida vacation about the same time. YIKES!!!!!!

I believe that those are not literal predictions but a discussion once again about model data. Model data will give absurd predictions based on the pre-recorded data of former hurricanes that initialized, materialized, or vaporized at sometime in the past Century,. Don't put too much faith in the reports. They are sketchy ideas at best that once trimmed down to reality may not pan out as an afternoon rain shower,.
