Hurricane Ivan & A Word About Storm2K

Hello gang. (Footnote: I live in Pascagoula, Mississippi)I have edited this post after reading another post. The end story of Hurricane Ivan whether it was a cat 3 or 4 is the same ... alot of peoples lives and jobs and hometowns have been hugely affected no matter what the end stats on the hurricane will be. First of all thanks to Storm2K for a wonderful tool during hurricane season. All of you who run the board and the forecasters who contribute their expertise deserve a HUGE thanks from me and the rest of the people who use this forum. I have to say that as much as I love severe weather and I even chase tornadoes in the springtime ... there is something a little uncertain about hurricanes that makes me nervous. Ivan made me very anxious since Pascagoula found itself in the bullseye near the end of his track. The people in Mississippi dodge a HUGE bullet and we know it. I love tornadoes and hurricanes but it is totally different when it affects your home and your hometown. For the last 2 days (when I take a break from cleaning) I have watched the local coverage from Mobile, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola, etc and it is truly unreal what those people are going thru. Please remember them in these difficult times and for the next several months that it will take them to get their lives together. It almost goes without saying that even with our enthusiasm about storms we have to remember there is an eventual end result like what happened here on the Gulf Coast. Finally, it is unbelievable the difference in damage between a distance of only 50 miles. So, for my neighbors in Alabama and Florida ... we know we were lucky over here and I'm truly sorry for the horror that you are going thru but we all support you. I'm putting my left over supplies on a truck this week that will be sent to the families that need it more than I do. Good Luck from all of us here in Mississippi and Storm2k.

I ditto what Bluefrog said. I'm also in Pascagoula and we are truly fortunate and grateful to be spared the brunt of Ivan. I'm not one to complain about the work of preparing for Ivan because I know how blessed I am to have a home to return to. To those in Alabama and Florida, my prayers go out to you.

I am also in Pascagoula and my heart and prayers go out to all in Alabama and Florida. I have been through what you all are going through and know what it is like.

Yes, we here in Pascagoula were blessed. It was hard to pray for this storm to turn or go somewhere else. So, I just prayed that whoever he affected made it through safely from Louisiana to Florida.

I'm also grateful for Storm 2k. My family and I decided to ride out the storm at a local church in Vancleave, Ms ; 25 miles inland. After hearing the storm was making a turn to the north, we were relieved but also were concerned to our neighbors to the east. Having the experiece of going thru past hurricanes, Frederick, Elena, and George are exciting to an avid weather watcher like myself and others but the devastation and destuction it causes is horrible. My prayers and concerns goes out to the people of Baldwin County and the west Florida pan handle.

After being born and raised in Pascagoula I can add my own personal Thank You to everyone on Storm2k for all of their well wishes and prayers. If not but by the grace of God, it would have been my house, or lack of, and town that is being shown on the news.

I will say that Ivan had me scared, as this was the first time I have every evacuated the town and left my husband here as he is deputy sheriff and has to stay.

My heart is heavy with the suffering of the people in the Gulf Shores Alabama and Pensacola Florida areas. I have been in that position with Georges and 2 feet of water inside my home. It hurts your heart to know that everything you have worked for numerous years is now washed away or soaking wet and beyond repair/saving. It took 8 months to get back into our home after that, but we did. It will be a long process but they will come thur this horrible time with many new friends and actually some good memories of friendship and the compassion that is and will continue to be shown to them.

Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers as the people along the MS Gulf Coast will do.

Again, thank you all and as said in previous messages, if you have left over supplies or you just want to send something, there should be someone you know in this area that is going that way and can take them over there for you.
