What is a BEAR WATCH?

I have seen many ADFs use this terminology with potential tropical development. Today's HOU-GAL AFD used the following statement:

BEAR WATCH WILL LIKELY BE POSTED

I assume it has something to do with weather conditions that are "ripe" for bear sightings... in which they want to make the public aware of the possibilities of running into a dangerous animal.

I thought of that too, however stating "BEAR WATCH WILL LIKELY BE POSTED" makes me believe otherwise.

Are there even bears in southeastern Texas?

Not sure what they are talking about...but there are no bears in SE Texas...any more at least. We used to have black bears 60 or 70 years ago...but the habitat is gone and so are they.

Hmm--considerring that its in a wx forecast discussion, I would think that the weather will become conducive to bears coming out or arriving in SE TX---just my guess :Pick:

Be happy to send you a few. We have an abundance of them in Jersey! Though I've never heard anything about them in the forecast!

A BEAR WATCH IS WHAT THEY ISSUE WHEN BEARS ARE POSSIBLE. A BEAR WARNING MEANS BEARS ARE LIKELY.

It means that the remnants of Ivan needs to be watched. They are expecting the remnants of Ivan to get into the Gulf Of Mexico.

The only bear that I see is the perverbial polar bear with the early shot of fall that has filtered into the SE with the passage of frontal trough associated with Ivan a couple of days ago ... :D
