A "loop" and a "fish" are two different things even if a system ultimately moves out to sea.

Thurs,Friday show NE motion, not a big loop anymore. Seems to me the NHC is leaning towards a fish storm.

A slow (NE or any direction) movement is also indicative of a possible loop in a three to five day forecast.

Well, I wouldn't say it was/is a fish. Jeanned killed some people in the Carribean, I believe. I would say it looks now like she may not hit mainland USA>

The general definition for a "fish storm" is a tropical cyclone that doesn't directly affect the United States coastline... from Brownsville, Texas to Eastport, Maine.

It still exists, hence the uncertain movement in the coming days; along with the strong trough and the very slow steering pattern it is currently in.

I know you're a well-respected Storm2K contributor, but I disagree with the definition you give.

It is insensitive and ignorant of us to define a storm as an exclusive "fish spinner" if it has had a major impact on any land mass, especially since it has caused deaths.
Such a definition leaves the less-informed believing it to have been harmless.

That said...
What should we call a storm that never hits the CONUS?

I honestly don't believe a system that affected a landmass is called a "fish." That is why I used the word "general."
