Something on S2K Forum Stealing eBay Passwords?

#1 Postby wxman57 » Sun Sep 19, 2004 5:05 pm

I happened to attempt to log into the forum from my wife's laptop today using IE (rather than Netscape as I use on my PC). Soon as I logged in, Zone Alarm popped up a window saying that Internet Explorer was attempting to send the IP address 66.98.251.192 my eBay password. I clicked "Deny Access", of course.

While I don't think anyone at S2K may be doing this, could someone have planted something here that is attempting to get passwords from forum members? Better be careful and use a firewall when coming here.

It must be your computers that have the virus as I have never received a single pop-up on this site

hurricanwatcher - I dont get pop-ups here - is it possible you have spyware on your computer? You might want to download Spybot Search and Destroy and have it checked....its a free program and it does a good job :)

Don't use Internet Explorer, use Firefox instead...

http://www.getfirefox.com

I'll never go back to IE, especially with all the security holes it seems to have. Thanks for encouraging me that I made the right decision when I switched to Firefox browser several months ago :)

Yes, sounds like spyware.. Let me check around..

Try running adaware or spybot search and destroy.. Both can be downloaded at http://www.downloads.com

Here's the pop-up window I got. Again, this was only on my wife's laptop. I'll run Spybot and Ad-Aware to check out for anything on her laptop. Just beware out there, and use a firewall.

I NEVER get a pop-up window with Fireox and its built-in pop-up blocker, no spyware, no malware...nothing. When I do run a scan for spyware, I never find any when I use Firefox.

Ditch Internet Explorer, plain and simple. Problems solved.

I switched to firefox today and love it. Tired of IE problems. stable, all the graphics and stuff looks great. Plus you get tabbed browsing to boot!

I am trying to be sensitive to linux migration for many friends, and this is really the first program i've seen that I recommend people to move to.
