My cousin called from Carnegie. He tried to go home after work, but the police set up road blocks. They said his street is under 4 ft of water.

Pittsburgh is my home town !! I relocated near Richmond Virginia 23 years ago however.
Imagine if they would have gotten the 11-12 inches of rain in that we got here in 7 hours due to Gaston last month. . . .

Major roads, such as McKnight in Ross, Route 51 in Overbrook and Route 8 in Shaler were under water.

Whoa. Got family right there. I better make a phone call.

My dad owns a laundry mat down on Dewey St. He said that it is under more than 6 ft of water. I hear that it is a mess down there, and the main rivers have not even crested yet. Hope this storm does not decide to stall now. :( :( :(

I'm from Pittsburgh too and have family in Oakmont. Hard to think that Ivan missed us here in South Florida and got my family in Western Pennsylvania instead.

They say it's bad, really bad. No flooding on the Allegheny though. Mainly the Mon and the Ohio rivers.

I moved to Everett 2 years ago after growing up in the Burg! Here's a link to a Photo Journal of the flooding:

Record rainfall yesterday in Pittsburgh of 5.95" (the most ever recorded in a single day). The remnants of Frances brought 3.6" ten days ago.

I'm located about 5 miles north of the Shaler and Aetna areas which are flooded. I collect water for my gardens and the barrel had 8" in it this morning. Many, many roads were closed due to flooding and many more major roads (including the Pa Turnpike) were closed due to landslides and flooding. The ground was so saturated due to the rain from Frances last week that Ivan's rains had nowhere to go. We have three major rivers here, the Monongahela and the Allegheny which meet in downtown Pittsburgh to form the Ohio river. The Mon and Ohio have not crested as yet.

It's great to see so many Pittsburgh natives here.

On the NWS site, the Alleghany river is flooding just as bad as the other 2 rivers. The Ohio River is expected to crest some 8-10' above flood stage in some areas. Wheeling Island and many small communities along the river will be under water this evening. Comparing this flood to the Flood of 1996.

Yins better believe it!

Hey Pburgh, please keep us informed. I'm not too worried about my relatives because they live up the hill in Oakmont. Still, they're really old and I worry that the people who take care of them won't be able to make it to the Hulton Bridge on Route 28.

Another former Pittsburgh girl here (now a FLA Girl!). Still have relatives in the "Burgh" and it was a mess last night. Does anyone know how the town is doing today? Have the waters receeded? Are roads still closed?

The Ohio River crested at 31.5 feet. Flood stage is 25 feet. The Point is flooded. Basements in the downtown area are also getting water. Flagirl, many roads are still closed. The town just south of me is still flooded and many business' on Route 8 were completely destroyed. It's my understanding that the Main Street in Carnegie is totally destroyed also. One man is still missing and presumed drown.

My prayers go out to all of Ivan's victims.

Its about the same story in all of PA, OH, and WVA. The river wont be as bad in Pittsburgh as it will be south in Wheeling. Im going there tomorrow to check it out. Cresting nearly 8-10' above flood stage.

It came up to Pittsburgh and kicked our butt severely.

It rained for days. As a young teen (pre-driving age), I was stuck indoors forever, or so it seemed.
