TROPICAL STORM LISA
NJN WEATHER CENTER
1010 AM MON SEPT 20TH 2004
Tropical Storm Lisa became official around 8am Monday after NHC satellite estimates indicated her winds reached at least 50mph if not stronger.
Lisa is currently out in the open ATL tagging right behind Karl. Karl needs to accelerate if Lisa wants to strengthen into the season's 8th hurricane.
Lisa is in a rather healthy environment and development is likely, but if she gets too close to Karl.. Karl could tear her apart.
Lisa has become the 13th named storm of the season. Last season we had 17 if my count was correct. One of the busiest seasons of all time was 1995 with 19 named storms.
Lisa's forecast from the NHC does have her actually making forward west progress across the Atlantic.. but if she makes it that far.. she should pass well north of the Islands if she nears them.
If Lisa were to come close enough to the mainland.. it wouldn't be a for a long time. There is plenty of time to watch her.
Here are the current projections on Lisa:
Today: Moving westward. More strengthening. Max Winds: 60 mph
Tuesday: Still moving WNW.. maybe more strengthening. Max Winds: 70 mph
Wednesday:Becoming a decent hurricane.. Nice outflow.. moving west. Max Winds: 90 mph
Thursday: Still in the open ATL.. start watching closely in the islands though. Max Winds: 100 mph
Friday: Turning due west.. powerful hurricane.. maybe even a major. Max Winds: 115 mph
