This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Javier and "Whatever" coming to TX

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Mon Sep 20, 2004 10:20 am

Okay, serious question about WHAT happens, not IF it will happen:

Based on what I've read here this morning, remnants of Javier will be moving across Mexico and into southern TX and remnants of Ivan/a spin-off/whatever could make it westward toward SE TX by mid-week.

Now, first let me say, I am NOT so much worried about tropical development as I am wondering about what these two former tropical systems will do if and when they come together. How do they move against each other? Will they move north or south when they meet? Will they meet or will one pass over the north of the other? Will there be training rains? What factors surrounding them might steer them in whatever direction you predict they will go?

Obviously no need to answer every question, but a general idea about what happens when two systems meet like this would be nice.

Like I said, I'm not worried about "Matthew" or "Ivan 2" or anything like that. It's just been forever since we've had a bit of rain (when my car flooded was the last real downpour I remember) and I'm wondering what to expect and wanting to learn about it. :)

I know they said if Jeanne and Ivan would come close, Ivan's remains would destroy Jeanne..so I'm assuming the same..one would live, other not.

My guess is it would depend on which system has a stronger vorticity as it approaches south Texas. From all I have read and seen online, it looks like the system to-be-developed coming from the eastern GOM will be the stronger while Javier's moisture (and upper-level moisture at that) would be what moves into south Texas.

That being said, the potential exists for us to get a lot of rain later this week. Should be interesting. BEARS WATCH!

I just watched the news as well, and they are now talking about the "big changes" for later on in the week... Fox 26 mentioned it was Ivans backwash, and channel 2 mentioned that as well... I guess we will have to wait and see... I tell ya, we really need the rain!
