Jeanne leaves 250 dead in Haiti,Will name be retired?

Oh my goodness another big tragedy for that poor country after they suffered in may when over 3,000 people died in those floods at that time.

The question is if the name Jeanne will be retired and my answer is yes because not only there was a tragedy in Haiti but 6 people died in Puerto Rico and 4 in the Dominican Republic.

Not to mention what it could do if it sweeps around back into the US. Then IMO it will most likely not exsist in 2010.

In 1994 Hurricane Gordon caused 1144 deaths in Haiti and the name was not retired, subsequently it was used again in 2000, and will be used again in 2006.

The problem is that Haiti is not a member of the WMO.

See my post about this subject.
This list has a history for destruction, it needs to be removed for good.

Making the case for the name Jeanne to be retired are the 6 deaths in Puerto Rico which is a commonwelth of the US.

Not surprising after what Gordon did. I was expecting this actually when I saw its track. And this name will very likely not be retired as mentioned above. I really was surprised that Gordon was never retired after what it did in Haiti. (On a side note, why was TS Alberto never retired? Freakin 30 inches of rain all across the south and like 30 deaths. I mean come on!) Gordon was a late-year storm and took a freakish pathway across the Gulf and Atlantic...very unique qualities. But most importantly...OVER 1000 PEOPLE DIED. ONE THOUSAND!! Are you kidding me?? And they don't retire the storm?! What??

I just looked it up and Haiti is in the WMO. But there is definitely some kind of Haiti double standard going on. For example, I was in Costa Rica when Hurricane Cesar hit the area -- cat 1 storm that was retired. I remember being in the vicinity of one of their volcanoes the day it started raining nonstop. Late that evening I returned to the San Jose suburbs where I found out that a hurricane was responsible for all the heavy rain. I had no idea what was going on. Didn't take long to see the TV news programs and newspaper reports and pitcures detailing all the damage and deaths that had already occurred across poorer parts of the country due to mudslides and flooding. Kinda like what has gone on in Haiti a couple times now...but not NEARLY as many deaths.

I always thought it was a travesty that Gordon was not retired. Aside from the deaths in Haiti, Gordon also struck Florida 3 times due to his bizarre figure 8 track. Gordon killed 8 people in Florida and caused $400 million in damage.
