Thanks.... nice link Robert! MAN those #'s just dont add up to what I'm seeing damage wise! I would have figured cat4+ storm surge in some of those areas! sure west side of storm pretty much fell apart at L/F but that wouldnt effect the east side and surge......weird!

The center of the eye crossed the coast over Palmetto Beach, Alabama, a small town 7 miles west of Gulf Shores...

Around the time of landfall (very near the Alabama coastline) per the 2:00 AM Central Time National Hurricane Intermediate
Advisory 55B, Hurricane Ivan was located near 30.2°N 87.8°W / 7 miles SW of Gulf Shores, Alabama.

None of those wind speed reports are from the immediate landfall area. One of Birmingham's TV meteorologists, who is the retired director of the B'ham NWS, was in Gulf Shores and was estimating 100+ sustained winds well before the eye reached the shoreline.

I KNOW Georges was 7ft at Chevron in Pascagoula which was JUST outside the Eye in east eyewall. I heard reports it was 10 ft at Belle Fontain where eye came in at near Ocean Springs. And that was a cat2

For some reason I remember peak surges of 10-12 feet with Georges and 18 feet with Opal, but that was probably surge + wave heights.
