Also, went down to Gulf Shore, AL. Beach is severely eroded and lots of structural damage. Oddly enough, homes on pilings did pretty good for the most part. They have roof damage and water damage, but they're still standing.

What I feared is what you are saying Hurricane Jim. I grew up in Gulf Breeze and know the entire area like the back of my hand. If the surge almost made it to City Hall then we are talking at least a 20 foot surge or a minimum 12'-15' surge with 10 foot waves on top of it. Most of the GB peninsula is below 20' msl except for a few areas on knolls. P'cola beach of course is another thing as it never gets above 10' except for a few high dunes in the protected areas. I know enough of/about the people in that area(call them crusty old sea salts or whatever) to know that many of them did foolishly stay thinking they would be fine. I pray that they all are ok and I fear that we will find that many more than we care to know about are not. I continue to pray for the safety of all not accounted for and for the recovery, both physically and mentally of the thousands and thousands affected by this tragedy.

Delaware river flooding in SE PA/NJ-this AM Rt 29 was closed from I-95 to Rt 129 (from Phila/NJ crossover). Calhoun bridge was closed (bridge from Trenton to PA due to flooding.
I drove over RT 1 this AM to work (PA/NJ border) and I never ever seen the Delaware that high!!!!! Lots of places from what I hear have been damaged, 34 counties in PA declared disasters. Not as bad as what happened further south, but for this neck of the woods, very rare!

I can tell you a lot of people over there have no phone and no cell phone. My sister has some friends in Fort Walton. She'd been trying to reach them all day Thursday and Friday, with no luck. They rolled into her driveway Friday night at midnight. They have no power, no phone, and no cell phone. So, they had no way to call her. They headed out to take a break from the heat, bugs, and clean-up. Fortunately, there house is okay. But, your friend may be in a similar situation. Also, some of the phone companies are setting up places where people without phones can make long distance calls to family and friends.

Niceville came through fine from what I've seen of it. The problem was that Niceville/Valparaiso/Bluewater is a very heavily wooded place, and lots of trees and tree limbs took out utility lines where they're aboveground. Some road flooding along low elevation Bayshore Drive, but no reports of major/catastrophic damage.
Power's on in commercial areas, schools, and most of the Bluewater Bay area (utilities are underground there) but it could take a while to restring and restore power/phone/cable lines to the individual homes where trees took them out.

The remains of Hurricnae Ivan have delivered strong winds to the
Maritimes.
Afternoon ferry crossings of the Northumberland Strait have been
cancelled. The Confederation Bridge is experiencing delays as well.
Ninety-kilometre-an-hour winds and pounding rain are soaking Cape
Breton.
Power lines are down in several communities on Cape Breton, shutting
down schools and businesses. The world's largest ocean liner -- the
Queen Mary Two -- had to skip its first Canadian stop in Sydney.
No deaths or major injuries have been reported.
One million people across the United States remain without power after
Ivan moved across the country over the weekend. Ivan is blamed for 52
deaths in the U-S.
