This was the 3rd of 26 confirmed tornadoes that night...we did 10 hours of wall to wall coverage.

WOW broadcasting and still watching a Tornado, heading your way. How did you keep it together?

Didn't have time to think about it...got as many in the station to safety as possible, then just watched it as best I could...the impact of it didn't hit until several minutes later...

I understand the impact hitting later. After Charley left the area, I had the biggest adrenaline rush of my life. Not to mention scared beyond words. I could not calm down for a long time! I saw our local met for the first time (since Charley) and stopped him (felt goofy) and thanked him for what they said about Charley's NE wobble. I really felt he and another local met on the same station saved ALOT of lives.

VIPER archive data

#26 Postby Wallcloud » Mon Sep 20, 2004 9:36 pm

wxman007,

Any VIPER archive data on this event? I would love to see what the shear values looked like. Also would be nice if someone (WJHG maybe :)) would put a chopper up and show the entire path from the air.

Jason, what a terrific job you did --- cool head under pressure. I hope you win an award for this video!

INFORMATION SAVES LIVES - AND I AM CONVINCED YOU SAVED SOME BY STAYING ON THE AIR AND REPORTING WHERE THE TORNADO WAS GOING.

At the time of the tornado, VIPIR was indicating 90kts of rotational shear...there was a VIPIR shear marker on that storm for 3 volume scans from EVX, and 4 volume scans from TLH.

We had a chopper up Sunday...we have the video in house, but we haven't had time to convert it and get it online.

wxman007,
I'm in the process of trying to find some aerial pics of some of the Jackson County twisters. I would love to have a shot of the "Cypress" spot. That one came right over my house. Less than 1000 yards later it did all that damage on Hwy 90. There has to be some pics because it's been like an international airport all week here. It's a wonder there hasn't been a midair collision! A lot of folks owe you a thanks. You saved a lot of lives up here.

Very well done. (insert applause emoticon here)
