TD 14L on the horizon??? (TWO)

#1 Postby senorpepr » Tue Sep 21, 2004 4:31 am

Tropical Weather Outlook

Statement as of 5:30 am EDT on September 21, 2004

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane
Jeanne...located about 445 miles east of great abaco island in the
Bahamas...on Hurricane Karl...located about 1025 miles east of the
northern leeward...and on Tropical Storm Lisa...located about 1005
miles west of the Cape Verde Islands.

A weak low pressure area...a partial remnant of former Tropical
Depression Ivan...is moving westward across the southern Florida
Peninsula. This system is producing scattered showers and a few
thunderstorms over the southern and central Florida Peninsula...the
northwestern Bahamas...and adjacent waters. Upper-level winds are
currently unfavorable for any significant development...but
conditions may become more favorable in the next couple of days as
the system moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

A large area of disturbed weather located several hundred miles
southwest of the Cape Verde Islands is associated with a
westward-moving tropical wave. This system has become better
organized this morning...and a tropical depression could form in
the next day or two
as it moves toward the west-northwest.

Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through
Tuesday.

as well as the low moving off Florida. I think this Low has the potential to become a weak Tropical Storm despite the Shear.

 Sheesh!

So for the record, this is a PARTIAL remnant of Ivan, not the whole thing. I'm curious, how did this piece of the system break off?

I'm not sure about "the how," but the other part of Ivan is midway across the Atlantic, as an occluded frontal boundary, approaching the United Kingdom.

I don't know about the "scattered" part, it's been rainin since last night. 7 inches sounds about right. Lots of dark ominous clouds rolling through, look to be headed off to the west.

Yup!! They are headed this way!!! Very dark clouds on the horizon earlier-now, very overcast, very light rain, slightly breezy and cooler than usual.
