would do a loop after landfall... and so he has...
but not in the way the forecasters predicted

Technically speaking, the rain and wind we are recieving in Florida right now is a remnant piece of Ivan. If it gets in the gulf and spins up into something it will be called Matthew. I guess you could say that Matthew is Ivan's son. We have been dumped on for more than 24 hours. Seven inches of rain in 24 hours. Street flooding is being reported at this time.

Palm Beach Gardens got dumped on last night as well... the wind woke me up several times also... whistling outside.

Further south towards West Palm though the skies are clearing up.

You're right. I saw those predictions also. And i suppose you could
say...it did come back in some form... but like you said... not quite what they thought would happen.

I saw that rain up in PSL, Melbourne...points north of me Monday and it was coming down hard on radar. Still is in some of the same areas. We got wind and cool temps here in ft laud with some light rain at times and what looked like low level tropical type clouds bands. Poured her for 45 mins or so fairly steadily last night. Looks like more on the way but nothing like what you guys are getting up north. Head for the high ground S.FL!!

It took me 45 minutes to drive to work because of flooded roadways this morning and it's still raining very hard and pretty windy. Looks to be more headed this way from offshore as well.

*Note* No chimp and camel sightings as yet for the animals two by two. Just a couple labradors being led by a very grumpy and wet looking lady. :wink:

Did I actually hear the Weather Channel say that there are currently no tropical threats to the US Coasts? I could have sworn they said there are 3 (sic) systems but none pose threats to the US.

As of now there are none...The only possible threat is the feature that split off from Ivan and going into the GOM...Untill it is classified *and that is a big if* there is nothing that will affect the US in the short term...

Shear will relax on the system as it moves further west and the upper level low retrogrades west as well.

This is definitely something for us western GOMers to watch!

That system is over my head right now. Low-looming clouds in a band circulation, but not quite thick enough to keep all the sun out. There's an obvious center to this SW of us offshore between us and the Keys. The southern half of this center has failed to wrap all the way from yesterday off the east coast to now. However this feature shows signs of wanting to form. There's a coolness to the air here from that half-front that came in behind Ivan. Sort of explains this remnant's condition.

The waters it is moving into are favorable for slow development. I agree with a Texas rainer at minimum if this odd backdoor retrograding slider continues to track west...

We could use rain ... not 10 inches mind you, but some rain. Things have been very very quiet, tropical weather-wise, along the western GOM this year.

I know, wonder if the conditions that protected you early on will favor western hits in the months ahead. After alll GOMer season starts soon. :eek:

I know it's like feast or famine, we were below normal for rain a few years back now we are 20-30"- above for the year :roll:

At any rate I am sure you will see some action this year. Hopefully the lessons learned this year will ease complacent behavior and continue to lessen the fatality rates :wink:

We definitely could use the rain, I am tired of watering my grass.
Funny though, our weather guy on the news last night and this morning said NOTHING about anything coming into the gulf. Really strange - so many people on this site think it will develop into something, and the news here is so vague about it. Dave Schwartz on TWC is the only one who even hinted last night that yes, it could happen.

The three local mets all mentioned chance of rain from ivan's "remnants" are possible here on thursday. But not one mentioned the chance for development.

You need to see the last few loops of the IR satellite. This system is clearly developing convection around a low level center. Even with the healthy shear it is encountering, something looks to be developing.

If that upper level low moves off to the west as progged, look out!

looks like the broad center has exited off Ft Myers....water vapor seems to indicate that if it can make another 200 miles west it is clear sailing for development...substantial flow coming up ne off the Yucatan right now which may be hindering more than feeding. Rotational flow over FloydBuster in Ohio should help push it along to the west as well...imho.... :wink:
