A meteorologist friend of mine warned me when Ivan was moving toward the Windwards that it, in his opinion, could be the "storm of the century"....a monster hurricane remembered decades from now alongside other infamous violent canes such as Camille, the 1935 "Labor Day hurricane", Gilbert, and Mitch. IMO it's as bad as he feared....as bad as this lady describes in the email....everywhere this hurricane's eyewall reached land....extreme destruction and death was the result

And people living in Florida most certainly will provide first hand accounts over the Internet about what is happening there and I guess their accounts are to be discredited as well.
Good grief.

mello.....the island of tortoise is gone....no really....
seriously.....there is devastation.....i dont think "7 mile beach is gone".......and i would assume the resorts are still standing.....
surge would have been offshore of the westward facing beach....i just done see it.....
the amazing thing in all of this is the eywall stayed offshore....yikes.

actually, I talked to my friend who was there and she mentioned that the big waves were coming from the North Sound over the island down to the South Sound so it is completely possible that 7-mile is severely damaged and much of the west side washed out to sea. I have not had a chance to talk to my friend since the other night; she was still in shock and said she was going to sleep for a week.
