Alllison was in 2001.

Here is the long range radar out of NO.

TD at 5pm? I think it will depend on how much the NHC thinks this could develop. Definitely a LLCC with convection trying to wrap it out there. Also appears that shear has lessened considerably in that area.

As much as I know we're all tired of this season, I'm really routing for this to be a weak TS. We have been in a moderate drought around here since August and could use the rain badly. I don't want flooding but I'm hoping for a good 3-5" soaker all throughout south Louisiana. We didn't get a drop from Ivan but this time I'll be on the wet side!

Alicia formed in almost the exact position 94L is in. I should say location 94L is in because we really dont have a center until after recon at 2pm. Interesting to note, Alicia dropped 1 millibar per hour for 12 hours prior to landfall. GRAZY, deepening for a storm so close to the coast....I dont see this for 94L but you got to remember this came from IVAN!!!

... they get bigger with age.

opera ghost wrote:Allison the first go round wasn't too bad. I stayed off the roads and watched the wind blow happily enough- she was only a nightmare when she came back for seconds.... but if I remember correctly- Allison spun up very very fast in the gulf.

Do things normally spin up quickly when they're home grown?

I think in the wester Gulf things can spin up pretty quickly.

Alicia was my first hurricane too. Not very fun - I remember driving with my Dad down into Montrose to pick up my sister from her apartment. The sky looked really weird with clouds racing around and the wind picking up. The streets were already pretty deserted.

We picked up my sister and her cats and brought them out to Sharpstown to the house. For the next 12 hours we were homebound (was it 12 or 24 hours?) I remember that the continual roar of the wind got VERY old VERY quickly.

My parents lost electricity for two weeks. Does anyone remember just how HOT and HUMID it was for the two weeks following Alicia?? bleagh!

My friend from Abilene has never experienced a hurricane. Since we both live up here in northwest Harris County, I promised him a trip to my parent's house if we have one.

Amen to that, PTracker!!!! We have not seen a drop of rain locally since the now-notorious trough anomaly that brought the strong cold front into the Gulf and forced Charley to make his quick fade move into the southwest Florida coastline back in August. And even that front brought nothing more than an intermittent light shower. While I have enjoyed the cool, dry periods and hurricane protection offered by the pattern we have been in, the drought is becoming, as you mentioned, of moderate severity.

I've never been in a hurricane either... been in Houston since '91. Allisons winds only lasted a couple of hours at most- and I, being a total weather freak, was content enough to sit with my nose pressed to the window at a friends house and watch trash cans blow down the street from the start of the winds until they died down enough that I could drive home. My husband worries that if we have a hurricane he'll have to tie me down to keep me from sitting with my nose pressed to the glass to watch the wind blow things around. (I'm not that stupid... but a good blow from a TS is fun to watch)

Very true VB...

Although AFM and I were earlier talking about how this is setting up alot like Fay and Frances did...Which may not do much inland besides rain...But sure would do a number along the coast..

Houstonia...yes, it was very miserable after Alicia. Very hot and sticky out. The electricity being out for a week and half didn't help either. lol

We have a coastal flood watch in effect since yesterday due to the East fetch of the winds all the way from FL. Tides are running around 2' above MSL on average I believe.

yeah, that's what Dr. Neil said last night. So If the water is already high, and this little bugger comes along. Could mean more of a flooding potential.

Yeah, check out the Bayou Vista webcam on the left http://www.bayouvista.com/cam.htm

There's usually a dock, clearly visible, under those two milk crates and the light.

... at buoy south of NOLA

Actually, now that I look at it, the pressure hasn't really fallen - it's just lower than it WAS.

does this have anything to do with the astronomical high tides we are having today and tomorrow?

Tides are higher than normal, I believe, due to the autumnal equinox. Anyone know if this is actually the case?
