This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Is JEANNE becoming ANNULAR ??

#1 Postby bobbisboy » Wed Sep 22, 2004 8:41 pm

Her eye has become very large for a long period of time. Any thoughts from the experts ? If so how will this affect intensity forecasts for JEANNE ? Thanks in advance.

Maybe an ERC?
Then again, probably not strong enough yet to have one.

She definitely looks stronger than your typical 100 mph hurricane.

No ... although, Jeanne does have a large eye, it's not annular because it clearly has banding features and not the "donut" look to it ...

Just a quirk of hurricanes. Unknown. If she did donut here it would be a problem...

It appears to me that Jeanne has entrained some dry air this evening.....convection is way down from this afternoon.
Jeanne may recover as she moves westward over very warm waters....but right now, IMO is weakening...in spite of the large, impressive eye structure (check out the lack of deep convection on the latest IR4).
