Jeanne possible major at landfall?

Reading the 11pm discussion on Jeanne, the NHC leaves the door open for futher intensification of Jeanne. Already a 100mph hurricane, with an anticyclone expected to develope over Jeanne and moving over warmer water, it is possible Jeanne could become a major hurricane prior to landfall.........MGC

Well, right now, she is packing Frances type winds, shes just smaller with not nearly as much thunderstorm convection. Trust me, 100 is bad enough, we dont need another major. GO away Jeanne, go way way away.

sure, but if it landfalls south of 28, i dont think it will be a major at landfall

I think all of us on the East Coast must prepare for that possibility. We have learned to prepare for the worst case scenario, not what is hoped for.

NHC has it at 110 mph(only 1 mph shy of a major) offshore Florida... if it hits there, it could easily be a major.

It is much more likely if Jeanne remains on the southerly/westerly track long enough to impact FL. The Gulf stream is in there, and the waters have recovered enough to support a major. The buoy ENE of Cape Canaveral has been running near 28C as of the past 24 hours (w/ a few dips to ~27).
