A word of advice for Flordians still up and reading Storm2K

#1 Postby Windy » Wed Sep 22, 2004 11:35 pm

It may sound nuts, but it might be a good idea to get up from your computer, go to your car, drive to the nearest gas station, and fill the tanks. Go to Walmart and buy all the ice you can fit in your freezer, bottled water, the works. I'm guessing the panic buying will commence tomorrow morning once everyone wakes up and discovers that their world may be about to be rocked again.

Yeah -- but you have to figure, this is a state that's just seen three hurricanes in roughly a month. Everyone is on edge. Everyone knows what it feels like to be the ones without gas or ice or whatever it was they put off getting. Everyone is going to want to get everything really early -- just in case. And I have to imagine that supply in the state is still trying to recover from demand the past three direct hits.

Edgy yes... then there's also the sinking feeling in your stomach... the "oh no, not again"... the weariness... eventually the panic.

for now... just one big *sigh* before I go to bed. Glad I filled up on the way home from work today.

It could be, but IMO I am sticking with the ECMWF. I am not a met.. just an amateur. I am sticking with my choice of landfall in the Carolinas.

Florida can nominate someone to play LOTR's Gandalf.

Stick him out on the beach with a white robe and grand staff, screaming "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"

LOL!! Nope, you can't beat synoptic reasoning.... but I am sticking with the ECMWF. If it shifts to FLA, then all hell will break loose down there... I wish FL could not get this storm...

*Uses the Force to move the storm...* :P

I am fully stocked up on canned goods. I'll stock up for every hurricane season from now on. Unfortunately, I get paid every two weeks, so I haven't restocked my freezer after losing everything from Frances. I was going to stock up on frozen veggies on Friday. Guess I'll get canned instead.
Very glad I bought the battery operated fans and 6-bolt batteries while I could.

Sure! We'll follow up with the DynOMat guy flying his shiny new 747 into the center of the storm, dropping the disposable diapers - and then everything will promptly disappear in a poof!

Did you find a 12v fan or one just using a couple D cells?

I found fans that use D cells. Wal Mart had them in the camping section. Even if they only last for a couple hours, I hope I can get some sleep.
