Things I know...
Tallahassee is serving as the staging point for FEMA-mobilized search and rescue teams from all over the U.S. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing in the Pensacola area, and these teams, many of which are made up of firefighters and other disaster relief personnel who in another season would be fighting forest fires, are searching for victims in this area still.
AND, there was at least one previously unreported tornado that hit in the Pensacola area, but it did not have a high number of victims or hit major facilities. It hit a residential area.

Mike Watkins started a similar thread here a few days ago. Lots of reports of efforts to hold down the death count.
Personally, I'm skeptical about conspiracy theories. I certainly believe that additional deaths may be discovered, but I doubt there is any plan to suppress the death count going on.
Beyond the personal tragedy experienced by those who have lost loved ones, it's hard to see any good reason to keep the death count down. The news is already pretty bad.

Escambia County Sheriff tries to put the kabash on the rumor mill, read below:
Rumors run rampant in aftermath of Ivan
One rumor has it that a tornado hit a hospital and killed 157 people, another that a 40-foot tidal wave washed 20 people to their deaths and a third has hundreds of bodies being hidden away in a morgue. The rumor mill has been going full tilt since Hurricane Ivan whipped the Florida Panhandle with 130 mph winds last week. That prompted Escambia County Sheriff Ron McNesby on Tuesday to deny that he was hiding bodies of people supposedly killed during and after the storm. "There are not dozens and hundreds of bodies hid anywhere," McNesby said during a nightly news briefing by local officials.

The last thread WAS the rumour... this thread is ABOUT the rumour being spread...
So this thread is spreading the rumour!
There is a very true maxim about conspiracy theories. 'If you know about it then it isn't a conspiracy. If you don't know about it then...'

Doubtless, this is the same conspiracy-theory crowd that worked those willing to believe the government hid thousands of corpses after Andrew.
Also heard there's a blog saying black helicopters fly into the WV mountains at night to hid bodies from Ivan.
Some people will believe every idiotic thing heard.
Folks, get off the crack.

You should hear the rumors/stories that people here tell at night when the neighbors gather around outside after dark. I dont know how much truth there is behind some of the stories but my neighbors have a brother who lives in Grand Lagoon and told us of the horrors he saw in that neighborhood the morning after. I'd consider him a reliable source. I doubt we will ever know exactly how many died, but havent heard anyone here say they are hiding bodies.
