Controlling Hurricanes

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but the current (Oct. 04) issue of Scientific American has a cover story on controlling hurricanes.

Might be an interesting read during the "calm before the storm" ,though with South Florida media, I don't think that phrase applies anymore.

This has been discussed extensively here. I know it sounds like a great idea, but the fact is, that in this perfect world that has been given to us, everything happens for a reason, and every meterological event occurs to help regulate the Earth's climate. Any effort to strip the Earth of her natural ability to cool regulate herself would result in severe, if not catastrophic effects in the short term, and more importantly, in the lives of our children and grandchildren. Our scientific abilities should be focused on forecasting, and building structures that can withstand the force of nature.

We are but mere inhabitants on this planet, we share it with every other living thing and it is ridiculous to attempt to control it. Rather we must attempt to co-exist with it.

Hurricanes will be controlled about as well as cockroaches or nutria. You have to learn live with them.

killing the hurricane is the easy part.......getting the trillions of tons of necessary water from the ocean to the mainland in its place is the trick.
