It appears the convection is firing up, and that the eye has tightened. I bet when the convection the south of the eye wraps around, that it will pull that little eye southward some.

Yes it is moving away from the area it was upwelling in. It will likely get better oreganized. In with warmer water to come could become quit a powerful tropical cyclone.

Eyewall Replacements are more common in Major Hurricanes.

It doesn't happen with lesser Hurricanes very often

I don't see any mention of eyewall replacement cycles in this thread.....

I see your point, Mark. Jeanne isn't exactly a weak storm and is expected to strengthen as we may be seeing the beginning signs of.

so what was the track during the last 3 hours?

It looks slightly north of due west but that could be misleading cause the eye is significantly smaller now.

Couldn't her eye presentation be just the fact that dry air got in to the main circulation. :?:

Jeanne moved 24.7 miles in a due westerly direction between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM Eastern.

From 5am Thursday to 5am Friday...the Jeanne coordinates on Thursday was 25.6N and 69.7W and this Friday 5am she was at 26.1N and 71.6W. This is for 24 hrs. Do not know how to compute into miles.
