Ivan became a Tropical Depression, (the first time), on Thursday, September 2nd at 5:00 PM Eastern... 515 hours ago.

The storm travelled over 7,600 miles during it's existence. The average speed comes out to between 14 and 15 mph.

The following is the number of National Hurricane Center Advisories Ivan was in each of the "seven categories" (Tropical Depression through the 5 Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale Categories):

...Tropical Depression: ..9 (..7.56%)
...........Tropical Storm: 18 (15.13%)
Category 1 Hurricane: ..4 (..3.36%)
Category 2 Hurricane: ..5 (..4.20%)
Category 3 Hurricane: ..8 (..6.72%)
Category 4 Hurricane: 55 (46.22%)
Category 5 Hurricane: 20 (16.81%)

Total Advisories (including intermediates): 119


The storm "bypassed" Category 2 status... strengthening from Category 1 to Category 3 between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, September 5th.

It "bypassed" Category 2 status... weakening from Category 3 to Category 1 between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM Eastern Time on Thursday, September 16th.

And the time as a cat 5 vs. TS is staggering.
Take out the "second" Ivan, and he's a Cat 5 for
1+day more than a TS.

I just read that he may come back in the GOM but would be very slow to develope.
