3M Applied Window Film

Is this stuff safe for hurricanes without shutters. Has anyone gone through a hurricane with it on their windows.

Disagree. You may have windows broken, but nothing will get in. I've seen it demonstrated. It's good stuff. It's also a great theft deterrent.

brother in law installs this for a living and it is phenomenal how fantastic the protection is from this, additionally lowered power bills and the theft deterent, some protection is better than none...

Problem is since it doesn't cover the entire opening there is still the potential for the windows (frame and all) blowing in given the right circumstances. Otherwise I hear ir is a great product.

I've seen it demonstrated here at a trade show. It's very good - not even a sledgehammer can break through it.

Much better than boarding up with shutters (bad for claustrophobics) or using tape (tape is a mostly a waste of time and messy).

Just on caveat: It's expensive.

Based on experience from automotive window tint, I would say that it's not worthless. Yes, the window can be broken. However if it is, the glass will all stay attached to the film and not scatter over the room containing the window. Having cleaned up broken car windows both with and without tint, I can personally state there is significantly less shards of glass with film/tint on the window.
