request from friends in SC
I have friends in Paris Island, SC who are worried. They haven't lived there long but hear that it floods there fairly easily. I know its early in the game for SC but what do you guys think she should do?

Yeah, USGS... welcome aboard. Good to have ya here.
For the people up on the island-- remember also that we've had river flooding in various parts of the state... if that's combined with really high tides and some rain, it could get ugly on the islands real fast. I'd be quite vigilant throughout the weekend, and watch what the other locals are doing.
Although... this IS SC where the locals move a bit slowly sometimes.

All of Beaufort is near the water. And I don't know about the "watch the military" idea. I know that a lot of staff was ordered to stay at Keesler air force base when Ivan was headed that way. They evac'd most equipment and vehicles, but the staff stayed hunkered down in their dorms.

Beaufort County is already at OpCon 3 so they'll keep the public informed.
