The eyewall is available on this National Weather Service radar....Now, we can all watch and truly watch the direction of Jeanne.

Yeah, me too Courier, broward. I'm mostly afraid of some sickening, rapid intensification that nobody has forseen. The way things have been going this year, seems almost anything is possible. I don't like seeing ANY intensification at this point.

Good point, THead. I heard yesterday that the water temps in the NW Bahamas are near 90 degrees. I think chances are that Jeanne will strengthen before landfall.

2am isnt out yet. Shortly....its gonna be right down to the wire. Just hope we dont lose power again. 2 days with no A/C a boarded up house so no air coming in...was no fun. Least this will be a faster moving storm. We got off Reeeaal easy in broward last time. Few neighbors lost roofing shingles and some trees went down but not bad considering. Looks like mother nature has hit just about every part of the state this season EXCEPT us.... Think she just wants to be thorough and not play favorites.

Ahhh here we are... WOOPSSS!!!! Strength up 5mph and increased forward speed. Now 14mph moving west.... ohhh man!!

Good thing were still boarded up cept for a few windows.
Hope I have time to wash the dogs in the am. The only thing worse than being stuck in a house with no air and no windows to open....is the same...but with 2 stinky dogs scared outta their wits getting as close as possible.

At 2 am EDT...0600z...the large eye of Hurricane Jeanne was located
near latitude 26.5 north...longitude 75.6 west or about 100
miles...160 km...east of Great Abaco Island in the northwestern
Bahamas. This is also about 270 miles...435 km...east of the
Southeast Florida coast.

Jeanne is now moving toward the west near 14 mph...23 km/hr...and
this general motion is expected to continue during the next 12 to
24 hours. On this track...the core of Jeanne will be moving across
the northwestern Bahamas later today.

Reports from an Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft indicate
maximum sustained winds are now near 105 mph...170 km/hr...with
higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next
24 hours...and Jeanne could become a major hurricane later today.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 70 miles...110 km...
from the center...and tropical storm force winds extend outward up
to 205 miles...335 km...mainly to the northeast of the center.

The latest minimum central pressure reported by the hurricane hunter
is 962 mb...28.41 inches.

I haven't seen one official forecast indicate that Broward will be the landfall.
Not even really up here in Palm Beach County.
Besides Ortt; I hear Ft Pierce or Vero Beach from all...

there seems to be a large gap btwn feeder bands on the radar. In fact it almost looks like the eyewall coming into the western most part of the loop, but yet only one feeder band. I guess the radar just isn't picking it up yet the other bands due to the range of the radar??

FCI, I'd love to believe that too, but I think the timings are way off now, with how fast Jeanne is moving now. Its only 18 hours away from landfall at current speed and course. She's at 26.5 now, which I believe is just north of the broward/wpb county line, and moving due west, AND appears to be strengthening, not saying its going to be a broward landfall, but way to close for comfort at this point.

Yeah...this is just an outer feeder band. Wont be in radar range till later in AM....then again.... at 14mph... thats sooner all the time.

This sound byte sort of describes what its like trying to determine when (landing).... uh.. landfall will be.... anyones guess.

Gosh those poor poor people in Charlotte County. I didn't realize they didn't have power back yet. That's incredible. I will pray for them.

2 days a walk in the park? U guys ever been cooped up with stinky dogs during a hurricane? :eek:

Seriously....sorry to hear about your situation Siobhan. That mustve been extremely rough. I had a dog with epilepsy and its terrible to watch a seizure and know you're helpless to do anything. A friend of mine also has ocassional seizures from a head injury that resulted in a recurring condition. I can't imagine how people cope with things like that.

It's also terrible what happened in Haiti, West FL, N. Florida... Bama, EVERYWHERE! My ex-girlfriend called me a week After Frances on her cell and said her home phone was still out and power only came back the day before. Shes also out of work because the restaurant she worked at in Punta Gorda got clobbered by Charlie.

2 Days without power is surely a walk in the park for sure compared to what others have gone through....hopefully we won't experience the same here. (Im still washing those dogs this am!! they just plain stink)

They showed people in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte on the news crying, because they honestly do not think they can emotionally or physically handle another cane right now! I fear the same fate for those hit up North too. It's been a sad couple of months for many in Florida. As for what happened in Haiti....that's just unimaginable! What a sad few months for the world!
