Three Majors Hurricanes in a Row

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Sat Sep 25, 2004 3:11 pm

Iván (165 mph), Jeanne (115 + ?), and Karl (140 mph).

Does anyone remember a year with this atypical characteristic?

Thanks.

28, 35, 44-46, sometime in the 60s.

Just guessing actually; something to research after the storm. Not climatologically out of bounds, I bet.

I know I've shuddered to see some year's historical tracks. A few weeks after the killer Labor Day Storm, another strong storm went though the Upper Keys. In fact, seems that really bad storms often happen same year that three storms cross the state or three majors form and hit the US somewhere.

What's scary is as bad as these storms have been this year we could see one even worse.

I found now that in 1961 the first 5 systems in the season became major hurricanes.
