Orangeish Sky

#1 Postby charleston_hugo_veteran » Sat Sep 25, 2004 6:01 pm

Everything outside is orange, again! Everytime a hurricane is near this happens. Does anyone know why?

Kinda goes against the whole "red sky at night, sailor's delight" thing, eh? I would assume it has something to do w/ the extreme amounts of tropical moisture in the atmosphere.

I took some really beautiful orange sky sunset pics a few years ago when Irene went by. The sky was orange and purple. It was pretty magnificent.

Yeah, my deck, which is like a reddish-clay color, was glowing orange. Very cool. Wish I would've thought to take a picture!

I wonder if this is a similar situation that many were experiencing after Ivan. Thread:

I had my own ideas of what it was, but these sightings seem to dismiss my theory.

Molecules in the atmosphere are scattering the suns color rays....with more moisture in the air the blue wavelength is scattered out giving the red/orange glow.

This is due to the subsidence on the outside of the hurricane (from the upper high, and the hazy appearance to the skies ... if you remember, this also occurred during Tropical Storm Gaston's approach to the Coast ... and I've snapped shots during that time ...

Double rainbow along the leading edge of Gaston that Saturday evening ...

Interesting. I can see the eastern sky over the southern part of Biscayne Bay in Miami. While Jeanne was out there hanging around and not moving, the morning sky was repeatedly reddish-orange.

I have noticed here in northwest Fl the sky is weird. It is starting to turn dark with pink tints in between the dark skies. Would not be suprised that the storm comes more toward the west.

Just outside talking to a neighbor in St Pete & we both commented on the deep pinkish colour to the sky.

We had a rose-colored tint to a grey sky under dry bands. The moon is hazing through some of the gaps. A rainbow appeared just before...
