Sorry Sean, but I was laughing too...... :)

But on the Weather Channel around 4:30 or so I think it was Port St. Luce had lost power around them because they saw a limb hit a power line and blow the transformer....so I would say some are without power already.

So far so good. Many have lost power here. I've seen large blueish flashes in the past 30 min. My backup power for my computer is ready to go. :)

I went to my cell provider and signed up for wireless internet and hot spot WAN. Just finished installing and it works almost as well as my existing cable modem, which during Frances went out even though I never lost power! Also bought a car charger for laptop. I'm not going to be in the deepest part of the storm but will likely loose power early AM Sunday. But as long as the cell towers hold up I'll be online! A year ago I couldn't even say "Geek". Now I are one!!! lol

Good luck to those on the other coast, we're bracing here but you're going to bear the brunt.....again.

LOL, Gulfcoaster:

I have two cell phones and data modems for both. During Charley (and 3 days w/o electricity), I never lost internet. I used every means possible to keep everything charged including an invertor in my car.

My guess is I am a whole lot older than most people here but I refuse to be left behind in this computer age. I am a gadget freek and Storm2k addict. I can do without most neccessities but not my computer!!!

After Charley I bought a generator so once the storm is passed, I'm home free. If Comcast stays up I'm golden!!!!

Good luck, everyone

Hmmm, HurricaneQueen, I'm 53 and I stay up on technology too. I'm also a weather nut year round.

Last year during Isabel, we lost power for 3 days, and it was a miserable experience. I could'nt imagine going a whole week or TWO!!!! with out power. I hope the best for all communities in Jeanne's path.

Keeping my fingers crossed and saying a little prayer every time the lights flicker. With all of the damage caused by the recent storms, FPL said it could be THREE weeks before power is restored to those who loose it...and I thought 11 days w/o electricity due to Frances was bad.

I expect to lose power either early tomorrow or sometime sometime tomorrow afternoon. I was hoping that all the trees that knocked the power out with Frances would make it stay on this time but then 'reality' kicked in and I know that ain't going to happen  I charged up my battery on my laptop today so I can keep in touch (if I have phone line) we are above ground phone lines and they went out at the tail end of Frances. Guys....I hate to say this cause I don't want to dwell on it but I am all alone for this storm. B-friend decided to call it quits yesterday (after 8 years) and never showed up to put back up the plywood, never called or anything. Word is, he decided to stay at his neighbor's house. Thats okay though in a way because now I know what he is really capable of! and I know that there is no way I would do that to anyone I really loved :grr: . Guess this is for a lovelorn board or something but I am nervous cause I never had to do a hurricane by myself. I have my puppy and three cats to keep me company. My house is pretty stable I suppose, but I would feel better if my plywood was up (guess I'll find out soon!) I have good neighbors who care and one of them knows I am by myself. I did tell them seriously that if something happens to my house, look for me in the bathroom!
