2004 Nightfalling hurricanes

Anyone else notice that every US landfall hurricane this year has been hitting land when the sun is down? I don't recall a hurricane making landfall in the middle of the day this year.

Ivan made landfall around the time of the satellite eclipse...

Both of Charley's landfalls(in Florida and South Carolina) were in the daytime. 4pm for Florida and mid-morning for SC. Frances and Ivan were middle-of-the-night storms though.

Charley made landfall between 3:30 - 4 PM. I went thru it. I watched it from a window for about an hour (a big window within an enclosed concrete area), and must say I wish Charley would have landed at night time because what I've seen, I wish to NEVER see again. I seen the eye pass about 1 mile in front of the window also, it was quite a site to see.

It's hard to imagine trees being up-rooted, flying objects/debris, fences and sheds coming apart piece by pieces, and things landing on cars with your 'own eyes'.

Going outside and driving 'right after' its all over and seeing the devastation Mother Nature did, makes you speechless. Those are images that will stay with me forever.

I was happy Frances landed at night and sure happy Jeanne is also.

I can't more disagree with you. I went through Charley too, as a direct hit, by 6pm I was back on the street, one of the first cars out there.

If a Hurricane like Charley hits you at night, where you have no visibility at all, no lights, only candles and flashlight and battery radio, then you hear things banging on your roof, hearing object hitting your window and you see nothing else than darkness. No thank you.

If a storm like this hits, I rather see the stuff flying around than beeing in darknes... and beeing in darkness for the next couple hours as well.

Sorry, but I disagree 100% with you on this one.
