953mb at landfall, 40th most intense

As Jeanne makes landfall this evening in central Florida with a pressure of 953mb, this makes Jeanne the 40th most intense hurricane landfall according to the NHC. Jeanne now is slotted between Hurricane Carmen of 1974 with a central pressure of 952mb and Hurricane Edna of 1954 with a central pressure of 954mb. Jeanne is in the upper end of Cat 3 hurricane central pressure at landfall. The most intense Cat 3 at landfall was Hurricane Gloria in 1985 with a central pressure of 942mb. Jeanne was without doubt a medium Cat 3 at landfall.......MGC

at most a minimal cat 3 as the saffir simpson scale is wind defined only.

argument is pretty much whether she was 110 or 115.

Hurricane Carmen 1974.

Now there's a hurricane you hardly hear anything about.

Sheesh, if it wasn't for "Forrest Gump", nobody would probably know she existed.

well, according to the 12pm update, NHC has Jeanne at 120 MPH now. Interesting, guess we can put that debate to bed, its cat 3.
