HURRICANE JEANNE UPDATE
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
1200 AM EDT SUN SEP 26 2004

AROUND 1150 PM EDT SATURDAY...THE CENTER OF HURRICANE JEANNE MADE
LANDFALL NEAR THE SOUTHERN END OF HUTCHINSON ISLAND JUST EAST OF
STUART FLORIDA...NEAR LATITUDE 27.2 NORTH...LONGITUDE 80.2 WEST.

RECENT OBSERVATIONS FROM THE STEPPED-FREQUENCY MICROWAVE RADIOMETER
INSTRUMENT ONBOARD A NOAA P-3 RESEARCH AIRCRAFT INDICATE THAT
JEANNE WAS A CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON HURRICANE
SCALE AT LANDFALL...WITH MAXIMUM WINDS NEAR 120 MPH.

the nhc always adds about 10 at landfall....smart thing to do......but probably leaves this actually right at 110 or so....but maybe 111...so ill give you cat 3.

The plane measured 120 mph.... that's what it is. The second eyewall is yet to reach the coast and don't be surprized if 120 mph sustained winds occur at the coast.

I heard from one of the NHC experts interviewed in the TV that most of the wind meters were blow away by Jeanne and exact measurement of winds are now impossible.

Thankyou... I really try (though sometimes the joke really flops LOL) Know how stressful it can get during storms if your in the path and sometimes things get tense on the boards too. Hope that smiles help some. *huggers*
