It is very interesting seeing inside of the eye...although, it's truly amazing to me how many people will actually break the law and walk around outside during the eye when these are the times that accidental death is most common from downed power lines. Some people are flat-out dumb and ignorant, IMO.

Well, I did it in Elena, but only on the front porch - kinda just sticking my head out and looking. But, it was pretty cool!!

I wouldn't want to be walking around, though, 'cause you are right - live power lines could be anywhere and everywhere.

Yes, and they would lock you up since a curfew is in effect. :D

Right--in New Orleans during curfew---they will politely put you in the back of the police car and you are welcome to sit out the remainder of the curfew in Central Lock-up!!

I brief stroll in the eye of a hurricane shouldn't be a problem. Those that are will be in the exact center of the eye will be in it for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

It's mainly to protect the lives of those who stayed, but, also to protect the property of all of those who chose to evacuate. Certainly in Los Angeles you would have a clear understanding of looting!?!

I only feel like a child if I am acting like one...then I deserve to be treated like one.

NO, I don't feel like I am being treated childish if a curfew is imposed because I have no buisness being out of my house and the curfew is there to protect me, my family, and my property from those who chose not to use the common sense they were given.

After Hurrican Lili, we tried to get to an Albertson's that was open. The police were quick to catch us and tell us that we had a few minutes before the 7 pm curfew to get back home. It was actually needed, because there was no electricity and the streets were pitch dark.

It is your choice to stay when there is a mandatory evacuation in effect, so therefore you can decide whether or not you want to risk your life again by going out in the eye of a hurricane. IMO if you are dumb enough to ignore a mandatory evacuation then you are dumb enough to go outside in the eye of a hurricane. ;)

Just heard a cop has been shot several times in Ft. Lauderdale - yet ANOTHER reason why the curfew is put into place. And even then, you can't keep IDIOT SHOOTERS in their place.

I was just thinking the same thing. Looking at the top of the page, very few members online - considering there's a landfalling hurricane. I surely feel for those folks. Not only are they suffering with no power (among other things), they are also unable to access minute-by-minute information via S2K. That can be a very lonely feeling - been there!!

When Frances was tinkering with landfall I recall one hurricane reporter's live shot depicting so clearly how easy it is for power to go out... even minimal winds whip the palm fronds and other tree branches around, and poof/zap, big balls of fire that seemed to 'dance' along the wires.
