...witnessing the eye coming in, the calm of the eye and general attitudes of people as the eye is over head, and the approach of the opposite side of the wall, all live on internet streaming television. It's been very cool to witness this evening.

Usually, when I'm in this close proximity to a landfalling storm, I have no power, no TV, and no cable so I can't see everything as it's unfolding. So, yes, I agree - THIS is quite interesting indeed!

But at the same time, I sure do feel what those folks in central FL are going through right now :(

Sean, access to great media is everything, isn't it?

Me and a buddy were tuned into WWL AM out of New Orleans, the only news we could get at a fishing cabin off Apalachicola the day before Ivan landfall. Thank god that signal carried. I feel like I lived through the NOLA evac from listening to it for hours.

On the road during Ivan I realized Miami media is actually excellent for storm coverage. Other Florida cities, IMO, aren't served as well.

New Orleans in the same league as Miami as far as hurricane awareness and great weather coverage.

BTW, whose stream are you watching?

OK, I hit Tropical Depression. I should really go to bed.
Another few weeks like this season and I'll make Category 1.

I do have to agree with you on the local coverage in New Orleans. We had local reporters all the way over to Panama City along the entire Central Gulf Coast for Ivan and were live the whole time like this---Miami television has done a great job with coverage, IMO. And, I, too, listened to WWL-AM during the evacuation. Even though I stayed home, it was very informative and interesting.

Channel 4, CBS, out of Miami.

Probably due to Brian Norcross' experience with Andrew...

You almost wore the board out all night last night. Have you slept at all?
