Thanks to those of you who have posted reports! I used to live in Madeira Beach and I have friends in the Tampa Bay area so I'm interested in what's happening. Your reports suggest conditions are not as bad as WTSP Channel 10 had led me to believe. However, losing a carport is unfortunate. I hope it doesn't get worse than that. Be safe everyone.
I didn't really find the boat sub-thread all that relevant.

I don't think we have recieved the strongest winds as yet. Some of the gusts are much stronger than what we recieved during Frances.

Here in Sarasota, very near the Sarasota/Bradenton airport, it's windy but so far we're faring well. The power keeps bumping off or a second at a time but so far it keeps coming back on. I'd say sustained winds around 30-40 and gusts to 60, that's what they're saying on tv anyway. I think I lost the chimney pipe to my gas furnace and water heater from the roof. I guess I'll find out later. If that's the only damage I'll be quite happy though.

Latest from Longboat Key site:
55 mph sustained from about 280 degrees
gust to 74 is still highest recorded
pressure has been steady aroung 29.19 for about 1 1/2 hours
steady moderate raLooks like another 4in
Ugly, and again far worse than we saw from Frances. Power has been out at my location since about 9:15 this morning.
Glad to see she seems to have reached and passed her closest approach judging by pressure and backing winds. Lots of debris in the yards and a ton junk flying around. But can't see any structural damage so far. Looks like another 4-5 hours at least judging by the radar.

South tampa checking in. Some strong gusts and rain, but it hasn't been terrible yet. I'm guessing the next 3 hrs will change that. 2 flickers, but power still on. Knock wood.
The cable modem went out very early, so I'm down to dial up. DTV has stayed strong again, which has kept the information flow going from Channel 28. Denis and crew are still doing a great job without the hype.
To summarize:
This summer has sucked
Cable company sucks
But really, it could be much worse.
GO CANES. The only hurricanes that I like BTW.

Judging from the Longboat Key observations the beaches are probably getting some higher NW winds off the water. The gusts with Jeanne are definately stronger than they were with Frances. The Florida power crews did a great job beefing up the grid after Frances but they are so overworked. If the power does go down it will take a while to restore.
