Entire threads disappearing...

#1 Postby Pebbles » Sun Sep 26, 2004 11:11 am

... While I applaud moderation of this board. I have my first complaint ever. Have seen many entire threads disappearing over the past day. While I understand the need to keep trolling and flames down, do entire threads have to keep disappearing that have any sort of 'debating' going on? Can't just the offending posts be deleted? I don't understand why differences of observations are bad as long as no one is flamed. Much interesting info can come out of these type of discussion threads. :(

Yeah, I think locking would have been adequate in the case of these threads. Just MHO.

That said, this is a private board and I respect the right of the owners/moderators to run it as they choose.

Some threads are moved to Off Topic and the sports forum. Some threads have to be removed because of a few that turn them into bashings. Some are removed because it was started to bash other members.

And MOST of the time we edit the bad stuff and leave the threads.

S2K is a family oriented site. No bashing nor flaming.

I doubt we've lost anything worthwhile. It's called pruning...I'm a MOD on a sports site with about 3000 members, so I respect the MOD's job on this site. Keep in mind, it's completely voluntary and is only meant to keep the site informative and well-kept for everyone. I think the MOD's here do a good job.

I understand Lindaloo. Just think it's a pity that some can make a highly contested (but still possible to keep clean) debate from continuing. :(

Thankyou for responding and you know I always think you guys do a FANTASTIC job. *GREAT BIG HUGGERS*

Thanks Sean!

BTW - we are not deleting the threads so the members won't see their post "count" affected.

Some threads get deleted because there are already multiple topics of the same thing(like sometimes when the new advisories come out a few people post at the same time).

Pebbles, sometimes we move threads to do the editing. If there's enough left that's pertinent then we'll move it back afterward :-)

While we are on the subject...
I am curious... why was the topic
last night posted by "meanjeanne"
deleted and why was he banned ??

I started to reply to it... but not only
was the topic gone.... the user was
no more ??

The topic seemed harmless enough ??

You guys do a great job, keep it up. The bickering and snide comments going on yesterday in many threads was awful. I was getting mocked for suggesting a thread title change that led people to believe Jeanne was making landfall at Cat 4, which was a pretty ridiculous thing to be flamed for. Some people seem to do it just for sport. Thanks so much for staying on top of things.

Meanjean was a duplicate account from a poster that had been suspended earlier. this was in fact their fourth or fifth identity. When we suspend a member they are expected to server their suspension like adults. Those that insist on creating new accounts will find themselves banned from the site.

Keep up the good work guys. One thing that really ticks me off is when I suspend someone from ACCBoards/PackPride and they try to come right back with a new username.

Also, you have really good and patient administrators and mods here. We tell our posters to PM us if they have any questions. we usually delete these type threads without response.

Aren't they wonderful!! I didn't PM them about this cause I know several were wondering. Was trying to avoid someone asking in a rude way and knew they would answer so EVERYONE would understand the reasoning. Also to kinda point out to all that we can/should debate in a 'nice' way. :)

Thanks pebbles :D and all of you guys and gals. :P We try to be fair and keep the peace. You all are what makes S2K what it is. Marshall is right, we try to edit posts but sometimes it's better off for the good of the board to delete them

We do let things get a little more confrontational in the Political Forum. That one's definitely not for the thin skinned :-)

Thanks for everyone's support and understanding!
