As a moderator on a very busy sports site, I see some of the same silliness here.

I understand being proud of your talents, but it isn't a competition. Or is it?

Thanks to those that I rely on to give me good info. That part of this board gives me peace of mind.

And the mods here are great. :notworthy:

Thank everyone soooooooo! much for all of their input and debate. I have learned so much in the last few weeks that I am still reeling from all of the information. I thought I knew a little about hurricanes but I found out right quick that I really did not know much. Much to my pleasure this forum provides a tremendous amount of information to people like me who have a little knowledge but are still seeking more. Again many thanks to everyone esp. the mods and forecasters.
I really have become addicted to this site and it is know the first place i visit when i am surfing the web.

I mod a site with about 100,000 members, but it used to be closer to 1 million (before cleaning) Its not an easy job and you get flamed for every decision, but that forum is so messed up its practically impossible to keep up with these days. While I can understand wanting to keep the flaming down, I think threads should not be completely deleted for the sake of a couple bad posts.
Unless the thread itself invites flaming, The only reason to delete entire threads is pure and simple laziness on the part of moderators.

I assure you Innotech... none of the mods here are lazy. S2K has rules and we are here to enforce them.

Yep I just posted about this & guess what it got deleted.

I hope they know that it does this board more harm than good because if you cant have a debate about something & speak your mind in America without being censored people will find else where to go & before you know it this board will be a memory.

redorangeglow, check your PM

Healthy debate is encouraged, challenging the PERSON themselves is not ... challenge the idea, NOT THE PERSON ...

several threads have challenged the PERSON, some of them directly ... this is absolutely NOT tolerated ...

Naw OrangeGlow, this board will never lapse. In my experience with board moderators you will never win this kind of argument. It's kind of unfair because it needs to be discussed but can't for obvious reasons. Best not to...

You are right Sanibel. First there is nothing to win here. WE ONLY ASK THAT THE DEBATE ON THIS SITE BE RESPECTFUL AND BACKED UP BY FACTS. When it starts turning to calling others names, or for that matter telling someone they are insane to "think that" or anything similar to this, that is when we will step in. DO NOT ATTACK THE PERSON, ATTACK THE IDEA WITH RESPECTFUL DISCUSSION AND FACTS. Sounds kind of simple to me.

As far as the Mods being lazy, that's entirely untrue. They work very very hard to enforce the rules as Chad and I have outlined them. It the specific case about recurvature I'm the one that moved the thread. Those rules are not up for debate. They have served us well for the two years we've been running the board and I see absolutely no reason to change them. Those that can abide by them are welcome. Those that think they are too restrictive are welcome to find another place to post. We've never had any designs on being the biggest board on the net if we have to compromise our principals.

I want to throw a "thanks" in here. Yesterday there were trolls here telling people in teeth of the storm that they were obviously not that bad off because they were using storm2k, there were repeated posts calling the NHC liars, and there were personal attacks. Amazingly, the mods were able to respond immediately. I doubt we lost a single byte of useful information in the deleted threads, but it did keep the whole site from degenerating into abuse.

New people are joining all the time. If they saw some of the posts from yesterday, they might have left and never come back, and that would be a bad thing.

Thanks to all mods and members who police themselves.

I have tracked canes for 30 years because I lived in Wilmington,NC till 1990. I am a disabled Marine and tried to be on marine message boards but my Vietnam combat stories were attacked. This was very upsetting. I don't have to take that abuse. So I stopped marine message boards. S2K has been a great source of info since I found the site last year. S2K is the best managed site I have seen. S2K maintain it as it is now. S2K is the best message board I have seen on the internet.
