Conditions in Jacksonville

Just thought I'd give an update while we still have power.

We are getting pretty strong tropical storm conditions here in Jacksonville.

Heavy rain squalls with gusty winds with some tornadoes in Duval, Nassau and St. Johns Counties.

I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like at landfall.

Hey, HG ... glad you were able to check in ... stay safe, you've got several more hours of very heavy rain/wind, and possible SVR/TORN, but the threat isn't as great as it was in Frances/Ivan due to more cloud cover, and a little less instability ...

My half-sis down in the WPB checked in this morning, and amazingly she still has power. A large tree fell in her yard but it didn't hit anything except bare ground ...

The clouds are going by so fast and when the low grey cumulous clouds come the rain squalls and wind are pretty strong.

George and I are taking video footage of the squalls with our digital camera.

We keep hearing transformers blowing around us. Luckily our power is still on. This is squallier than what we received from Frances. We didn't lose power with her so maybe we'll get lucky again. Already there's alot of power outages in town.

George and I went to Captain D's at 4:00 and the power went out while we were eating our Double Dozen Shrimp dinners. The only reason we went out in this crap is because George left his cell phone in a box at our new practice room! We moved in yesterday before the storm hit.

What part of town are you in? I would say that saying we are getting "strong tropical storm" stuff is an exhaggeration. I've seen stronger from typical july afternoon thunderstorms.
Standing on the beach my anamometer read sustained winds of 29-33mph and a highest gust of 41mph at about 6:30pm. And the beaches are getting the "worst" of it.
Our effects from Frances were markedly more pronounced that from Jeanne.

Im just going by the winds gusts in the trees here. And it was windy then with Frances, but it's way windier now.

I have water coming in through my front double doors that face east. Still have power. Lots of debris, mild street flooding. My pool is about to overflow. Nearly constant tornado warnings as a particularly nasty band is coming around. My boat which is high up on a lift is now floating with the high tide! Glad I tied it off too.

And most unfortunately, 2 15 yr old boys were outside in their Orange Park riverfront backyard and a tree fell on them. One dead, one hospitalized. So tragic.

Also here in Jax. I am in Baymeadows Apts. As of right now I have had two large trees fall across the road in either direction. So am unable to leave here by car. But I still have power and have plenty of supplies. Just kicking back to a rum and coke and watching some DVDs.

More tornado warnings from the JAX area ... GRW88Level3 indicated TWO MESO's side by side ... one of those with 13 km/shear ... yikes.

Pets have a "sense" with approaching storms like hurricanes, and the same can be said about earthquakes as well ... as they are apparently, very sensitive to changes ...

In regards to Jeanne, the pressure falls are probably what they are responding to, and the same can be said about my animals here (in the Charleston area ... BOTH have been abnormally inactive, and more ... clingy)

Thanks for the spelling lesson. Here's a grammar lesson for you: You don't start a sentence with the word "And".

Now, for the stuff that actually matters...
The news said they had some reported winds around town of 50mph. The highest I've had here at my house (In the regency area) was a gust of 43mph. I just stepped outside and got a gust of 34mph.
