Please Help - Need Suggestions to fix window leak

Water is leaking from the top of my window sill.

It's nothing serious compared to what others have to face but it's a steady drip drip and driving me nuts. I never noticed it before. It's probably from all the high winds and rain I'm getting in Central Florida from Jeanne.

Anyone know any good window caulks or sealers i can use?? Right now I have a sock stuffed in the crevice on top of the window to stop the leak.

If you're talking about a relatively permanant fix, even while it's still wet, get a tube of 3M 5200 Marine Sealent. But, do it from the outside.

The important part is to do it from the outside. Best if you wait till it is completely dry. Then use silicone like the others said. I also do it from the inside because I live down here and leaks are a way of life so we overcompensate.

OUTSIDE is the most important advice.

You might want to check if the leak isn't coming from the wall above the window as well. Towels work until you can get a dry day to do it right...

If you have any, diapers work great to soak up water from window leaks. You can tape them to the area and they'll really soak up the water. That could work until you can get outside to caulk/seal it properly.

Can I also use the marine sealer for inside the window as well?

When I go outside and examine my windows, how do I apply the seal? Do I just get a caulk gun and apply it on top of the window area where I think the leak is?

I've never done any caulk work other than simple bathroom tile stuff.

yeah that stuff is the bomb...but if you ever need to remove it that stuff is hell!!!!!--life caulk is another marine product that works pretty well...we get a form of sikaflex from europe for whenever we seal keel-stepped masts (i build sailboat masts for a living)...but 5200 will work just keep in mind if you ever want to take it off even those that work in the marine industry HATE that task to say the least

Yes, you can do it from the inside, but it kind of defeats the purpose. If moisture is getting in, you'll have rot if you seal from the inside.

you want to seal from the outside so that no moisture gets into the wall.

BTW, I used to own a sailboat and that is great stuff.
